Declaration of Authority

We the People of the world, being basically good and capable of understanding and implementing those values and actions which will lead to the highest good for all humanity, hereby declare and affirm that we constitute the ultimate political authority.

Those who have named themselves our leaders and claimed to have the authority to speak and act on our behalf have too often spoken and acted on their own behalf instead. They have led us into wars which have encouraged us to demonize our neighbors and to hate and fear our fellow members of the world community. They have pilfered and squandered our natural resources. They have used our energies and financial wealth for their own enrichment. They have defined us according to their own artificial boundaries and have resisted our efforts to embrace, appreciate, learn from, and connect to one another.

We take responsibility for having allowed our leaders to use our own power in ways that are contrary to our own values and that are counterproductive to our own well-being, and we hereby resolve that this behavior shall not continue. For in the fullness of time it is not personal power that is permanent, but the universal values of freedom, equality, growth, and connection which will lead us forward and sustain us as we move toward a better future.

This is our vision, our hope, our right, and our commitment to one another: That we will focus on connections, not on differences; on embracing our diversity, not on competing to win; on fulfilling our potential, not on controlling others; and on creating a just and peaceful system of self-government. To these ends we pledge ourselves in unity.
